چکیده
The large-scale studies of the Lower Don and Taganrog Bay coastal zone were carried out to determine background concentrations polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in soils. content 15 priority PAHs was determined by saponification method with HPLC detection varied widely from 77 µg kg−1 16,017 mean median values 1040 406 kg−1, respectively. PAHs’ highest concentration level observed soils River delta industrial areas city affected pyrogenic contamination sources. Background monitoring sites mostly represented hydromorphic (Fluvisols Salic Tidalic Fluvisols) automorphic (Rendzic Leptosols, Mollic Leptosols) soil types study area. plots did not exceed 600 a share low-molecular-weight PAHs: about 50%. Benzo(a)pyrene maximum permissible (20 kg−1), compounds threshold for impact polyarenes. In soils, naphthalene phenanthrene (35–54%) dominated composition compounds, only (59–70%)

Biodegradation of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) in Petroleum Contaminated Soils
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are a class of potentially hazardous chemicals of environmental and health concern. PAHs are one of the most prevalent groups of contaminants found in soil. Biodegradation of complex hydrocarbon usually requires the cooperation of more than single specie. In this research biotreatment of PAH (phenanthrene) was studied in a solid-phase reactor using indigenou...
متن کاملPolycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals in Kostrena coastal area.
The aim of this study was to determine pollution by polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and heavy metals in seawater and sediment in Kostrena coastal area, as well as their toxicity using bioluminescence based tests. Total PAH concentration in seawater ranged 1.7-155.3 ng/L. The share of carcinogenetic PAH was relatively high, ranging 22-48.3%. Nickel concentrations in seawater were beyond d...
متن کاملBackground Levels of Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH) and Selected Metals in New England Urban Soils
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) are byproducts of combustion and are ubiquitous in the urban environment. They are also present in industrial chemical wastes, such as coal tar, petroleum refinery sludges, waste oils and fuels, and wood-treating residues. Thus, PAHs are chemicals of concern at many waste sites. Risk assessment methods will yield riskbased cleanup levels for PAHs that rang...

intentionally manufactured or synthesized, as well as dioxins; however, they exist in fossil fuels, such as petroleum and coal. They are organic pollutants produced unintentionally by the combustion of organic compounds, like fossil fuels and waste. Especially, PAHs are formed during incomplete combustion; some PAHs, such as benzo(a)pyrene, have high carcinogenicity and mutagenicity for humans ...

Background and purpose: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are one of the most common environmental pollutants that are proven to be carcinogenic and mutagenic. Doogh, is a widely consumed fermented yoghurt drink in Iran. The aim of this study was to determine the presence and concentration of PAHs in different brands of Doogh in Tehran, Iran. Materials and methods: In this study, we synt...
